For the first time over 480 images relating to former Sherborne School pupils who died in the First and Second World Wars are now available online.

Taken from the School’s Books of Remembrance and other sources in the School archives, this new resource makes available the names, and in the majority of cases photographs, of former pupils who died in the First and Second World Wars.

Accompanying each image is biographical information about the individual, including their full name, date of birth and the names of their parents; the dates they attended Sherborne School and their achievements there; their rank and regiment, together with any decorations they were awarded, their date and place of death, and where they are commemorated.

Researchers are already adding to the Flickr pages additional information they have about these Old Shirburnians who gave their lives “for the national cause and the cause of honour, freedom and justice” (Nowell Smith, Headmaster of Sherborne School, October 1915).
