C.R.J. Eglington, Captain 1st XI, 1956.

It is with great sadness that we report the death of Charles Eglington (g 56).

Our thoughts at this time are with his brothers, Walter and Michael and their families.

Charles was a fantastic supporter of everything Sherborne – the School, the Pilgrims, the OSS, the OSGS, the Sherborne Foundation – the list is long and his contribution to Sherborne life is a lasting legacy.

The Old Shirburnian Society has so much for which to thank Charles. He was a key factor in ensuring that the Society was regenerated in the late 1990s and transformed into today’s operation that we hope embraces OS right across the globe. It is no exaggeration to say that this would never have happened without Charles’ driving presence.

The many tributes that have been received in the OSS Office naturally relate to Charles’ dedication to Sherborne but, overriding this, they allude first and foremost to his kindness. He helped so many OS in so many ways. We shall miss him terribly.

To quote from just one tribute received: ‘Not just one of the good guys, but one of the best guys.’
