Jonathan left Sherborne with the Brackenbury scholarship to Balliol College Oxford, reading history.  After graduating, he attended La Sorbonne and St Anthony’s College Oxford and attained D.Phil (Oxon).

His subsequent career was in investment banking in London, Switzerland and Nigeria.  He helped to set up FCMB, the first Nigerian owned investment bank, eventually being appointed Chairman.  He trained several generations of Nigerian bankers, and made an important contribution to the success of that country’s economy.

Jonathan died in London on 9 February 2019.
