The Face of World War One by Helen Marshall

Photographs of Old Shirburnians commemorated in Sherborne School’s First World War Books of Remembrance have been used by artist Helen Marshall to create a digital mosaic of a British Army private killed during World War One.

The digital mosaic, which was commissioned by the BBC and can be seen outside Broadcasting House in London from 7-14 November 2014, uses more than 30,000 photographs of people taken in 2014 alongside photographs from the First World War supplied by the Imperial War Museum and other archives.  The image was also projected outside the Imperial War Museum during the Remembrance Weekend.

Don’t forget that copies of Vivat Shirburnia, Patrick Francis’s superb new book about Sherborne School and the First World War, are still available at a cost of £30 (plus p&p) from the School reception.  Tel: 01935 812 249, email: enquiries@sherborne.org
