Today, 31 October 2016, is the 100th anniversary of the death of Robert Bagster Wilson Vinter who died from the result of injuries received at the Somme.  Robert Vinter attended Sherborne School from 1909 to 1914, during which time he was Head of the School, Head of Abbey House, and had secured a Scholarship to Keble College, Oxford.  Robert, however, never made it to Oxford and, just two years after leaving Sherborne, he was killed at the Somme, aged 20.

A commemorative service in memory of 2nd Lt. R.B.W. Vinter MC of Torpoint was held at St James Church, Torpoint, on Sunday 30th October 2016.  Wreaths were laid in memory of the Torpoint men who gave their lives in the First World War by Colonel (retired) Robert Jordan MBE, late WFR, and Steve Stewart, CWGC.
