Just under 100 OS and their guests returned to Sherborne for the biennial Quinquagesimal (Q) reunion held on Thursday 27th September. We were blessed with a lovely, sunny late September day and Sherborne looked at its best.
The day started with coffee and registration in the BSR, followed by a Chapel Service at 11am. There was then a presentation from Patrick Francis about the research that had gone into his recent book Vivat Shirburnia. Everyone was touched to learn that the title of the book came from an inscription on the grave of an OS. Following pre-lunch drinks, when Acting Headmaster Ralph Barlow spoke to the Q members, and a delicious lunch, the highlight of the day was a talk by military historian and author, Brigadier Allan Mallinson, on the early days of WW1. Our visitors also enjoyed looking round David Ridgway’s very moving and evocative photographic exhibition in the Oliver Holt gallery.
