Lewis Carroll and Alan Turing

The Game of Logic, Lewis Carroll (1887)

The 14th January 2023 marks the 125th anniversary of the death of Lewis Carroll, mathematician, polymath and author of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Lewis Carroll and Alan Turing probably aren’t two names you would associate with one another, but we know that the arithmetical and logical allusions contained in Lewis Carroll’s literary works played an important role in Alan Turing’s development as a mathematician and WW2 cipher-breaker.

To celebrate Lewis Carroll’s life, Dr Franziska Kholt has written an article for BBC History Extra (the official website for BBC History Magazine and BBC History Revealed) in which she mentions this connection between Lewis Carroll and Alan Turing https://www.historyextra.com/period/victorian/lewis-carroll-author-life-alice-in-wonderland/
