Mack Rutherford – the latest in a long line of Shirburnian World Record Breakers

When Mack Rutherford touched down in Sofia on 24 August 2022 he became the latest in a long line of world record breaking Shirburnians.

Mack, who now holds the record for the youngest person to circumnavigate the world solo in an aircraft and the youngest person to circumnavigate the world solo by microlight, began his record breaking journey aged 16, taking off from Sofia in Bulgaria on 23 March 2022 and arriving back in Sofia on 24 August 2022, having celebrated his 17th birthday in June.

Mack joins fellow Abbey House aviator Peter Twiss who on 10 March 1956 broke the World Absolute Air Speed Record when he became the first man to fly faster than 1,000 mph.

So, which House has broken the most world records? To date, Abbey House and Harper House can both claim six world record breakers, School House five, Lyon House two, and The Green, Wallace, Abbeylands, The Digby, and Westcott one each.
