The last days of the Gulf War – Patrick Cordingley (c 63)

Thirty years ago, the last days of the Gulf War were being fought outside Kuwait between the coalition forces and the Iraqi military. Throughout the conflict, a candle was kept alight in the School chapel and the names of all serving relations, friends and old boys were remembered in prayers each Tuesday morning.

One of a number of Shirburnians involved in the conflict was Brigadier (later Major General) Patrick Cordingley (The Green 1958-63) who commanded the 7th Armoured Brigade (‘the Desert Rats’) and whose account of the last days of Operation Desert Storm that led up to the ceasefire on 28 February 1991 can be read here:
