Confessions of an English Alcalde – Dr Peter Such (staff 1980-2011)

Confessions of an English Alcalde: a Cautionary Tale is a compelling and richly entertaining account of life, with both its joys and complications, in a small village set deep among the olive groves of Andalusia. It sets the dream of rural bliss against the demanding and sometimes harsh reality of adjusting to values and a way of being which may well take the British immigrant by surprise. But above all it celebrates the warmth and generosity of the welcome which awaits those who throw themselves enthusiastically into Spanish life. The text has been richly illustrated by Mexican-American artist Eduardo Arturo Boltares.

Dr Peter Such taught at Sherborne School from 1980 until his retirement in 2011 when he moved with his wife Sylvia to the south of Spain, where they live very, very happily in La Aldea de la Manzanilla. This book is dedicated to those wonderful friends who, through their hospitality, generosity and kindness, have made their life there such a joy. Dr Such has also published English translations of several medieval Spanish text.
