Taylor, John Kirby (f 47)

John Kirby Taylor (1929-2021) died peacefully on 2nd August 2021, aged 92 years. He is survived by his wife Jennifer and five children, including Andrew John (a 75) and Richard Kirby (a 74).

John came to Sherborne School (Abbeylands) from Stowell Park Prep School in September 1942.  During his time at Sherborne he was a House Prefect, a member of the 2nd XI (1946, 1947) and the 3rd XV (1946), and a Lance-Corporal in the JTC.

On leaving Sherborne John went to Worcester College, Oxford where he graduated with a degree in Mathematics. He worked briefly at actuaries Equity & Law before joining Phillips & Drew, one of the most successful stockbroking firms based in the City of London. He became a senior partner and ultimately head of its private clients division.

Following his retirement, he and Jennifer settled in Wiltshire, travelling widely for many years and enjoying the company of their 14 grandchildren. He was a generous benefactor to various causes through a family charitable trust that he founded.
