Shirburnians & the 1982 Falklands Conflict

The Falklands Conflict was a ten-week undeclared war between Argentina and the United Kingdom. The conflict began on 2 April 1982 when Argentinian forces invaded and occupied the Falkland Islands, part of the British overseas territories located in the South Atlantic. On 5 April 1982 the British government dispatched a Naval Task Force to engage with the Argentinian Navy and Air Force before making an amphibious assault on the Islands. The conflict ended on 14 June 1982 when the Argentinian forces surrendered. 907 lives were lost during the conflict: 649 Argentinian military personnel, 255 British military personnel, and three Falkland Islanders.
