In 1988, Sherborne School’s Combined Cadet Force (CCF) celebrated the 100th anniversary of its formation.
Originally formed in Michaelmas term 1888 as a Cadet Corps of the 1st Volunteer Battalion Dorset Regiment, under honorary Captain W.B. Wildman. The cadets uniform consisted of a Glengarry Cap or spike helmet with the cap badge of the Dorsetshire Volunteer Battalion, a red tunic with white facings and belt and the Austrian knot embroidered on both sleeves, sphinx collar dogs, and black trousers with a red stripe.
On 25 May 1988, the centenary of the Cadet Corps was celebrated at Sherborne Castle, where the Principal Visitor was Field Marshal the Lord Bramall, GCB, OBE, MC, JP.
A letter was received from Buckingham Palace on 20 May 1988 in which Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II conveyed her best wishes to the Sherborne School Combined Cadet Force on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Cadet Corps.
