Sherborne School has a long connection with royalty dating back to its re-foundation in 1550 by King Edward VI, whose royal arms and motto ‘Dieu et mon Droit’ (‘God and my right’) are displayed above the main entrance to the School. Because of its royal foundation, the School was known locally as the ‘King’s School’.
