On 13 May 2000, Sherborne School celebrated the 450th anniversary of the granting of its Royal Charter by King Edward VI.
A year-long series of events were held in Sherborne, culminated on 14 May 2000 with a service of thanksgiving in Sherborne Abbey where the address was given by the Rt. Rev. Lord David Sheppard (Lyon 1942-47).
Although HM Queen Elizabeth II was unable to visit the School during its anniversary year, a letter was received from Buckingham Palace on 13 May 2000 in which Her Majesty conveyed her best wishes to the School on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of the granting of its Royal Charter.
